Proof that the stereotypical nerd is a reality

Recently I've been playing a bit of Minecraft, a unique sandbox game for Windows and Mac. The game is currently in Alpha, so I will be holding off on my review until there is a full release available.

Minecraft is currently a very simple game: you mine blocks of raw materials, which you can use to build shelters, castles, waterslides, pretty much anything you want. The idea is to construct a shelter which will keep you safe from the monsters which appear at night. Multiplayer mode is unfinished and is currently little more than a collection of servers holding an astonishing collection of creations.

You can see how much time people are sinking into their builds when you watch videos like this:

I predict that the finished game will become more of a time-sink than World of Warcraft.

  1. yeah man i just paid 10 quid for the alpha and im regretting it already, all i can think about is creating vast things. Maybe as a group project we could put together a dyson sphere around to sun to say.. the orbit of mars? :P
